Slide-way grinding up to 12 m
Worn guideways are the most common reason a machine stops holding size. Our 4-metre slide-way grinder regrinds beds up to 12 m long and 4 m high, in-house.

Why guideways matter
Every cut a machine makes rides on its slide-ways. When they wear — usually in the zone where most work is done — the carriage or table dips and twists, and parts come out tapered, out of square or with poor finish. Regrinding restores a flat, straight, parallel reference for the whole machine.
Our capacity
We acquired our 4-metre slide-way grinder in 1995 and it remains the heart of the workshop. It handles long lathe beds, boring mill and planer beds, columns and tables that many workshops would have to send away.

Ground, then fitted
After grinding, mating slides are scraped or fitted to the new ways so the whole machine moves true, not just the bed.
How it works
- Send the details. Machine type, bed length and what you’re seeing in the work.
- Inspection. We measure the wear to plan how much material must come off.
- Grind and fit. Ways reground on our 4 m grinder; saddles and gibs fitted to suit.
- Check and return. Geometry checked before reassembly and handover.
Questions we’re asked
What size beds can you grind?
Up to 12 m long and up to 4 m high on our slide-way grinder.
Can you grind just the bed if we strip the machine?
Yes. You can send us a bed, table or column on its own, or we can handle the full strip and rebuild.
Do you scrape slides too?
Yes. Mating slides and gibs are scraped or fitted to the reground ways.
